Red berries sit amongst a background of crushed almond. Surprisingly complex, yet delightfully approachable and lingering. Brooding aromas of wet stones, stonefruits and hints of lanolin, make for a complexing introduction. The mouthfeel opens with a burst of sweetness, immediately tempered by intense stonefruit flavours and crisp acidity. Nashi, talc and floral notes dominate the bouquet. The palate, by contrast, dances rather than shouts with white peach, citrus and florals woven around a centre spine of acid, with hints of brioche. The palate shows the best of each vineyard that makes up the cuvee in the pure but powerful drive of fruit on a perfect cusp of ripeness, with complexing notes of sandalwood and spice. The heavy silt soils of Block 1 provide texture and depth through the middle, making it difficult to separate the intense flavours of apricot nectar from the residual sugar. While appearing rich and powerful, it is refreshingly light on its feet.Citrus blossom, lemon zest and elderflower aromas typical of the lower lying, sheltered and east sloping Block 2. The palate introduces delicate white peach and melon, leading to a very pure and restrained mid-palate. It is fine, elegant and transparent, the schist soils making their mark.The more exposed and north facing slope of Block 6 counters the higher elevation, contributing to ripe fruit and bold expression.
